In an effort to further fund work on the Dell Rapids Carnegie Library to renovate and expand, the library board applied for a grant with the Larson Family Foundation of Brookings. Board member JoAnn Beck said that the board was recently approved for a $10,000 grant from the foundation.
The City of Dell Rapids plans to host a tax levy opt-out election July 17 to ask for a majority vote to come up with the remaining funds needed for the library renovation and expansion project. The ballot for the election was considered at the city council’s meeting Monday.
The Larson Family Foundation is a grant-making foundation created by the Larson family to “share its good fortune with the people of South Dakota.” The focus of the foundation’s grant-making, according to its website, is to help people in need to achieve a better quality of life. The main emphasis of grants to be awarded will be to fulfill basic human needs such as food, clothing, shelter and education.
The foundation cites human services, education and cultural activities as areas of particular funding interest, with grant types ranging from capital to project/program support to endowments and emergency assistance.
