Several of the Dell Rapids-based softball teams closed out their seasons last week, as the eight-, 10-, 12- and 14-and-under teams, numbering 13 squads, finished up summer ball play.

The Dells Veterinary Services team finished third in tournament play last week to close out the season for the eight-and-under girls. The tourney for coach pitch took place in Chester last week, with the girls finishing in a close victory versus Brookings. The team ended the season with a 6-4 record, after starting the season with three losses and capitalizing on a six-game winning streak to take third.

The Old 77 girls softball team also traveled to Chester last week, June 26, dropping the first game, 14-7, and tying the second, 10-10, due to time restrictions. The 12-and-under team sits at 5-8-1 for the season.

The first game gave Old 77 an early 2-0 lead, eventually falling behind to 10-2 after the second inning. The girls outscored Chester 5-4 for the remainder of the game but the gap proved to wide. Cassandra Geraets led the team with two hits – a single and triple, and Carly Maxwell provided two assists at second base.

In the second game, Sheree Lacey, Tiffanie Dorale, Brooke Klein and Geraets scored twice apiece. Brianna Ruth aided a double play at shortsop, and Hannah Fletcher served up two assists at second.
