The Quarriers boys basketball team placed 6th in the Big Sioux Tournament last week, dropping two of its three contests in the three-day event.
After dropping their first match to Sioux Falls Christian 54-39, the Quarriers bounced back with a blowout win against Beresford 70-19. But Dell Rapids couldn’t sustain the momentum in its final tournament battle against Canton, losing to the C-Hawks 69-56.
Against Sioux Falls Christian, Head coach Jason Fersdahl said his team struggled the entire game against and was unable to convert on the offensive end with any consistency.
Bryce Koch had a team-high 8 points in the contest against the Chargers.
Fersdahl said the Quarriers need to play with more emotion and confidence in order to win games against quality opponents like Sioux Falls Christian.
The Quarriers responded the next night out, bludgeoning Beresford 70-19 behind 11 point scoring nights for Ty Hoglund, Zach White and Jacob Morris.
In the match for fifth place against Canton, the Quarriers again came up short as the defense was scorched by the C-Hawks Cody Willet who scored 35 points and nabbed 8 rebounds.
The Quarriers were led on offense by Zane Shumaker, Matt Kolbeck, Koch and White, who had 10 points each. Koch also had 9 rebounds against the C-Hawks.
