Lady Cardinals pick up two in a row
Staff reports
The Lady Cardinals picked up back-to-back wins last weekend.
Friday St. Mary’s hosted Elkton-Lake Benton at home, beating the Elks 41-31.
“It was a very physical hard fought game,” said Josh Lebrun, St. Mary’s head coach. “We played very good defense and did not allow their perimeter players to drive into the lane.”
Amber Hansen led the St. Mary’s with 10 points. Lexie Lebrun and Ally Mullaney each had nine rebounds, and Mikayla Brown had eight.
Saturday night it was Gayville-Volin playing victim to the Lady Cardinals. St. Mary’s won decisively with a 66-28 win in the Tri-Valley Conference Classic in Alcester.
St. Mary’s opened up a 35-16 halftime lead and didn’t let up.
Kelly Michel had 15 points and five steals to lead the Lady Cardinals to the victory. Brown had 15 points and Anna Wolles had 12 for St. Mary’s, who’s record improved to 2-11 with the win.
