A big first half lead for the Lady Cardinals faded late Thursday night against the Flyers and St. Mary lost its District 4B semifinal contests 48-44 in Chester.
The Lady Cardinals and Kelly Michel started the game hot and the Flyers trailed 19-14 at halftime.
“I felt like the girls did a good job of executing our game plan,” said Josh LeBrun, Lady Cardinals head coach. “They were able to limit the two best offensive threats for Chester.”
In the third quarter, momentum shifted and the Flyers came roaring back with a 17-6 run and a 31-25 lead.
Down by 10 points with five minutes left in the game, St. Mary went on a 9-0 run.
“It was a very exciting game, and our girls played their hearts out,” LeBrun said. “I was very proud of them despite coming up short at the end.”
