Dells-Baltic opens season with two wins

The Dell Rapids-Baltic baseball team got off to a red hot start with two convincing wins before old man winter showed and kept the boys from playing last week.
The team opened its season in Dell Rapids, Wednesday, April 3 with a 16-1 trouncing of Tri-Valley in a game that lasted only four frames.
Spencer Kerzman led the team with his arm and his bat. He pitched all four innings, giving up only one single and one run while striking out eight.
Offensively, Kerzman led the team with two singles, a double and four runs batted in. Leadoff hitter Tanner Solberg added two singles and a double. Cody Nielsen and Tim Wilhelmsen each hit a single and double and drove in three runs.
Again playing at home, Nielsen struck out 12 in five innings and gave up only one hit to lead Dell Rapids-Baltic to a 5-3 win over Lennox Friday, April 5.
Wilhelmsen led the offense with three hits and two RBI. He also got the save in relief by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Matt Kolbeck, Nielsen, Mitch Roemen and Matt Juba all contributed a hit.
Max Jacobson and Jordan Harrington each had two hits for Lennox.
Ryan Geraets led the Dell Rapids-Baltic offense with two singles to give the junior varsity team a 3-0 win over Tri-Valley. Brett Mogen pitched two innings and Riley Jurgensen the final inning to combine for a three-inning no-hitter.
Lennox’s junior varsity team took advantage of two walks, two errors and a timely single all in the first inning to defeat Dell Rapids-Baltic 3-2 in three innings.
Geraets doubled and singled for Dell Rapids-Baltic. Eric Klein also singled. The team had the bases full with no outs, but was unable to push the tying run across in the last inning.
Jurgensen pitched the first inning and struck out three. Joe Muston came on in relief and struck out five in two innings.
The Dell Rapids-Baltic team is comprised of 23 players, grades 8-12, from Dell Rapids Public, St. Mary and Baltic schools.
