Of all the track and field competitions Cassidy Wright has been a part of during her tenure at Dell Rapids High School, the 2013 LenWood Invite in Lennox might be the one that she remembers forever.
A senior, Wright’s been no stranger to first place finishes in discus events, but on Tuesday, April, a toss of 131 feet 10 inches cemented her into Dell Rapids records book and earned her the event championship for the meet. She broke her own school record with the throw.
If that wasn’t enough, Wright threw her personal best in the shot put as well. The put of 39 feet 6 inches was good enough for a second place finish.
As a team, the Quarriers finished fifth on the day.
Maddie Vietor took second place in the triple jump for Dell Rapids, while teammate Morgan Hoglund earned a fourth place finish in the event.
The Quarriers’ 800-meter relay team of Karen Eddy, Rachel Devlin, Averi Pankonen, Corynn Hoff and Mikaela Stofferahn finished in third place.
The 400-meter relay team of Eddy, Vietor, Hoff and Hoglund finished in fourth place.
Finishing in fifth place for Dell Rapids were the 1,600-meter team of Lindsey Morris, Sami Reider, Megan Miles and Hannah Fiedler and the 3,200-meter relay team of Cheyenne Speilmann, Kaylee Hennen, Jessica Tisher and Fiedler. Tisher also finished fifth in the triple jump.
Stofferahn finished fifth in the shot.
