Dell Rapids’ Cole Langer, Brett Nichols and the sprint medley team led the Quarrier track team to a second-place finish at Thursday’s Region 3A track meet in Elkton.
Langer continued his senior season successes in the shot and discus. His put of 58-2.5 broke an 11-year-old record set by former Quarrier Adam Wolf.
A throw of 167-7 in the discus by Langer also set the pace in the event.
Among Langer’s closest competitors in the shot was Bryce Koch, whose put of 48-4.5 was good enough for second place.
Nichols’ best performance came in the triple jump when he jumped a distance of 43-1.5.
His long jump of 20-9.75 was good enough for third.
Other first-place finishes for the Quarriers came from the sprint medley and 400-meter relay teams. The medley team of Travis Dusing, Ian Bergstrom, Tyler Gee and Tad Lacey finished with a time of 3:55.0.
The first-place finishing relay team comprised of Dusing, Langer, Riley Schmidt and Zachary Schroeder finished with a time of 43.6.
Zach White’s high jump of 6-2 was best of any athletes on the day and earned the Quarriers another first place finish. White’s teammate Spencer Kerzman took third in the same event.
Tanner Ljunggren finished third for Dell Rapids in the triple jump with a distance of 40-3.5.
The Quarriers 800-meter relay team took second place with a time of 1:31.6.
Finishing third for the Quarriers were Dusing in a 200-meter dash, Tanner Helm in the 800-meter dash, Nathan Koens in the 300-meter hurdles and Ben Hammer in the discus.
