Bulldogs improve to 5-4 with four more wins

The Bulldogs have a winning record four weeks into the volleyball season after winning four of their last six games.
The Baltic girls traveled to Gayville Thursday for a triangular where they split a pair of games with Gayville and Freeman Academy.
The Bulldogs (5-4) lost to Gayvill-Volin by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-14.
Allie Walter led Baltic with nine kills and three blocks. Taylor Reinhiller had five kills and three digs for the Bulldogs, while Molly Sittig led the team in set assists with seven. Mariah Hanisch led the Bulldogs in digs with 10.
In the second game Thursday against Freeman Academy, the Bulldogs won 25-18, 25-18 and 25-13. Walter had 10 kills and five blocks. Maddie Polzin had four kills, five digs and five ace serves. Reinhiller had three kills and five ace serves.
Sittig and Hanisch both had nine set assists.
“It was good to see this team bounce back after a tough loss,” said Matt Konz, Bulldogs head coach. “They are resilient and fought for the win. It was a great team win.”
Baltic tops Centerville
The Bulldogs beat Centerville in three sets - 25-12, 25-17, 27-25 – on the road Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Walter had 17 kills, eight ace serves and four blocks. Brooke Wilson led the Bulldogs in digs with six, and Polzin had five.
Sittig had 11 set assists, and Hanisch had four. As a team, the Bulldogs racked up 15 ace serves on the night.
“The team is playing with a lot of focus and energy right now,” Konz said.
Big East Tournament
The Bulldogs earned fifth place in the Big East Tournament, winning two of three contests.
Baltic opened the tournament in Garretson Thursday, Sept. 12 with a three-set loss to Sioux Valley – 12-25, 22-25, 17-25. Walter had eight kills and two blocks. Sittig had five set assists. Reinhiller had seven digs, and Wilson had four.
“The team never gave up and fought all night,” Konz said.
In the second game of tournament play, Baltic bounced back with a four-set victory over Garretson - 22-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-23.
Walter led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and four ace serves. Polzin had five kills. Sittig had 12 set assists. Reinhiller had five ace serves.
Defensively, Wilson had nine digs, and Hanisch had seven.
Baltic clinched the fifth place title Sept. 14 with a win over Flandreau in four sets – 25-21,18-25,25-13, 25-19.
Walter had 14 kills, six ace serves and seven blocks. Polzin had six kills and five ace serves. Hanisch had six digs while Makenzie Moe had four. Sittig led Baltic with 12 set assists.
Chester wins in three
The Bulldogs lost at home to Chester Tuesday, Sept. 10 – 25-12, 25-15, 25-19.
Walter had nine kills, and Polzin had seven kills and six blocks. Sittig had 22 set assists.
