Pastor's Column: The golden rules of life
November 05. 2013 1:28PM
“Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)
God loves you so much. Do you know that? Do you believe it? He always wants you to grow spiritually and become more like His Son, Jesus Christ. In our Scripture today, the Apostle Paul offers a strategy to help us live for God each day. Sometimes, in the busyness of life, we need a little guidance. We need to slow down long enough to be able to see things through the eyes of Jesus. But, how can we do that if we are so caught up in ourselves?
I would like to pass on to you some of the best guidance I received in life.
In your daily walk with the Lord imitate Jesus’ compassion for people. Try seeing them through His eyes and not your own.
Have a forgiving attitude. Christ forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Let love guide your life. When anger and hate creep at your door, let the love of Christ fill your heart. Love others as Christ loves you. And, treat others the way you want them to treat you.
Let the peace of Christ rule your heart. Life can be so chaotic and busy. Allow God’s peace that surpasses all understanding to rule your heart.
Always be thankful. Give thanks for the blessings and the storms that come your way. God brings good out of all situations and He uses the struggles and temptations of life to help you grow closer to Him.
Keep God’s Word in you at all times. Meditate on the Scriptures day and night.
And, live as a representative or ambassador of Jesus Christ.
When people see you, do they see Christ? If you are living a holy lifestyle filled with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, then they will see Jesus in you.
What areas of your life need to be cleaned up? Are there things that hinder you in your walk with the Lord? When people see you, do they see Jesus? Spend time in prayer today asking God to help you imitate Him. Ask Him to show you mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience so that you can pass these things on to others. Live your life for Jesus!
Prayer for the Day: Heavenly Father, I love you so much. Lord, help me to represent your Son, Jesus in all that I do. When I rise each morning, help me to clothe myself with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience so that I may reflect you in all that I do. Lord, I want to live a holy lifestyle so that others will be drawn to you. I love you. Amen.
May God richly bless your life today!
