The St. Mary Lady Cardinals trounced the Lady Divers of Lake Preston 59-43 Tuesday, Jan. 7 in Dell Rapids.
St. Mary jumped out to an early 18-8 lead and never let up.
“The key to our win was our ability to shoot the ball,” said Josh LeBrun, Lady Cardinals head coach. “We had our highest shooting percentage of the year at 45 percent from the field and 45 percent on three-point shots.”
Despite the 16-point victory, it wasn’t a cakewalk for the Lady Cardinals, who committed 14 turnovers.
“They were a very quick team that did a great job of using ball screens and dribble penetration,” LeBrun said. “They also did a good job with their full court pressure.”
Ally Mullaney’s 16 points and 13 rebounds paced St. Mary. Anna Wolles added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Cardinals, while Kelly Michel chipped in 13 points. St. Mary’s Amber Hansen had five assists.
“We did a great job of controlling the boards with our rebounding, and creating second chance opportunities for our offense,” LeBrun said.
The Lady Cardinals take their 5-3 record to Arlington Thursday.
