Alice's Attic: Styles change more than we do

Does one always need to conform to the current fashion?
I look in my closet every morning hoping something new will appear. Nope, it doesn't happen anymore.
So, just to make it all look different, I rearrange everything according to color, size and season. I figure out what might go well with something that I hadn't thought about before. There are three sizes of clothes, two of which I never wear!
There are no tight pants, fancy loose tops, off the shoulder chic
Dresses – or any dresses for that matter. Oh yes, I do have one black with a gold pattern that can be worn for either funerals or weddings. But no dresses that are tight and made with only one foot of material.
Shoes? No high heels or even close to high for me. Surely, I would tip over.
Comfortable – that is what I look for when I go to the shoe shop.
They need to be stylish, though. I am not a complete prude.
Some TV shows have "make overs" for people who they grab off the
street. I always think most of them looked better before.
Who is going to wear a red dress, high heels or high boots, and a
shawl after they arrive home again?
I am overwhelmed when I go into a large department store with hundreds of different clothes on racks upon racks – petite, medium, large, extra large, extra-extra large.
Is there any department anywhere with cool, medium length sleeves, comfortable, but cute dresses for just going to the grocery store or drug store?
I do have clothes in a second closet that are nice for dining out and such. Old, probably out of style, but, nice! I'll be darned if I will every get rid of them
"Please clerk, where are the retired ladies clothes? … In the basement, you say?"
