ALICE'S ATTIC: Cootie Days guarantees a good time

What was more fun than going to Cootie Days, enjoying all the carnival rides and lots of different stands where you could win a a big teddy bear and all sorts of stuffed toys and other prizes by throwing balls or shooting a toy gun at ducks?
Also, enjoying all the assortment of foods, candy cane probably being the favorite. The kids liked that the best so they could get it all over their faces and hands and be sticky for the rest of the night.
As soon as school was out for the summer, our kids started to plan for the big event. We gave them an allowance for both nights, which was carefully doled out.
Doug and Kim were allowed to go with friends, but, Scott and his little friends had to stick with us until they were older.
We kept a close eye so they wouldn't get lost in the stream of people on the midway. Also, we chose the safest rides like the merry-go-round and little cars.
Dave took them up in the Ferris wheel, and I would stand below and pray!
Somewhere on the midway, there was loud screaming from the tilt-a-whirl and the loop-to loop, which I contributed to when a friend talked me into going on the loop-to-loop.
Hanging upside down and not moving was not my idea of fun, and my laughing was from pure fright.
Probably not as frightened as the time we decided to take Scott to the Sioux Empire Fair for our first and last time, after going on a killer ride that never ended.
Scott and I were belted into the side of the ride, standing up, mind you, and the monster took off going up and down, side to side, backwards and doing all of this at 90 miles an hour.
I yelled and yelled, "Let me off! Let me off!" But, to no avail. The only person who heard me was Dave who was standing below on the grass laughing, which came to an abrupt halt when the ride was finally over.
I couldn't stand or walk, dropping to the ground, and at the same time telling Dave how much I loved him. I sat in the grass trying to get my bearings, also planning how I was going to kill the operator of the ride. Maybe tie him permanently in the loop-to-loop.
So, I hope you all have as much fun as we did.
